A Night at the Opera is a fundraising gala hosted by a special committee of dedicated volunteers that is unaffiliated with Kidneeds and the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. The proceeds from the funds raised at the gala will be donated to Kidneeds, a donor fund held at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
Kidneeds' goal is to stimulate research that will lead to a treatment for C3G. To reach this goal, Kidneeds funds scientists around the world to study DDD and C3GN.
Kidneeds is dedicated to the study of Dense Deposit Disease (DDD) and C3 Glomerulopathy (C3GN). DDD and C3GN are sub-types of C3 glomerulopathy (C3G). C3G is caused by dysregulation of the alternative pathway of complement. About half of people with C3G progress to end stage renal failure disease (ESRD) within 10 years of diagnosis. Transplant recipients risk recurrence of disease in their allografts.
